Working As an Animal Trainer for Media
I have been working as an animal trainer for awhile now. I have done some local commercials and TV shows. I made my own invoices from a website I found. I also have some business cards printed up and my own website with the animals I have and have worked with, though I can work with most anything. I can even help find animals to work with if they need something special. I have junior trainers that help me as well. I also have to make up invoices for them so they can be paid by the client if they work the job.
I got my break when an established trainer contacted me as they wanted to use my pet for a movie. I worked as the handler with my animal and helped her some with the others when needed. I decided to approach her for more work after. Once I had my foot in the door it was easier to start getting hired with my own animals directly. People do prefer local animals since there is a bit less expense involved.
Now I find my trainers in similar ways. You know an animal will be handled and treated well by their owner and if the owners do a good job then I can consider them for more work. Some of the animal’s zoo keepers take on talk shows are actually my animals or from other trainers. Most zoos don’t have enough animals to keep bringing new ones to shows regularly. They also get used in ads. One time my anteater got hired to be in a commercial. It is a job that is both exciting and fun though some days it can be slow on the set.
