I Needed Help with the Software Program

When I agreed to take over the bookkeeping for our church, I thought that it would be very similar to how I do it for my own household. I could not have been more wrong though. While it is the same as far as income and expenses, it is different because of the different types of income, the multiple expense categories, and having to track all the members’ tithes and offerings. I had no training on how to do this, and I knew that I was going to have to look up Excel consulting to find an expert who could help me.

The person who had done all of this effortlessly before had to quit suddenly, so there was no notice or time for training. She is the one who told me to do a search for that though, and that I would be able to talk with someone who is an expert in using Excel. She used her own program, but we wanted everything to be more streamlined, which is why we decided to use Excel in the first place. It just made the most sense since it is the one finances software program that we have all heard good things about.

I knew how to do some basic things with it, but I was unsure how to separate members and to keep a running tally of what they gave to the church as far as finances are concerned. I needed to do individual reports, but I wanted to be able to run a report of everyone’s contributions on a weekly basis without having to enter the data twice. I explained to the Excel consultant what I wanted to do, and he had me up and running in about ten minutes. The rest of it was easy for me to figure out, and it is now very easy to not only do the finances but to look at specific things when I need to find something quickly.
