Whenever my mother goes to the grocery store or supermarket, she never forgets to buy coconut oil, even if it is not on her list of things to buy. She would always choose pure coconut oil because it’s what she’s been using ever since I was born. She also loves cooking with coconut oil, and sometimes she buys the brands with coconut oil recipes on their labels. She is very particular with the things that she buys in the supermarket; maybe this is one of the reasons why she has always been buying coconut oil, and simply because she loves it.

I saw my mom once use coconut oil in frying chicken. Although I am not sure what the other uses of coconut oil are, I saw her once put a small amount of coconut oil into her palm and gently massaged it onto her hair before going to bed. I also saw her rub it on her arms, palms, and legs. I thought that maybe she would cook herself, but of course, she won’t; maybe she just uses coconut oil to keep her skin and hair smooth. Whatever it is that she does with coconut oil other than cooking, I am pretty sure that is for her own good.

Juicy Steak and Northwest Argentina

I am starting to feel hungry and thinking about what I want for lunch. I brought a salad with me but I am not sure if that will be enough for me. Although most people would have a steak at dinnertime in Argentina, I could eat one now for lunch. When I am outside Argentina, I barely eat red meat. I actually do not like it that much but there is something different about it here. I think it is because all of the cows are grass-fed and therefore the quality of beef is much higher.

Unfortunately, I do not think I will have time to eat a steak before I go to a fun wine tasting in Buenos Aires this evening. Fortunately for me I can go to a local restaurant for a delicious steak after the wine tasting because everyone in Argentina eats dinner so late. Most people do not start eating until after ten at night. I will have to call my friend and see if she is free for dinner so we can split a bottle of Malbec. My friend and I both love many of the red wine varietals but for me nothing pairs better than an Argentine Malbec with a juicy steak.

Maybe we will find a wine we like so much we will have to visit the winery. Although most people think of Mendoza when they think of where to go to visit Argentine wineries, Salta is another popular growing region in the northwest of Argentina. My friend and I just went to Salta but we still want to go to Mendoza. You can take an overnight bus from Buenos Aires and arrive in Mendoza the next day. You can participate in wine tastings at many of the different wineries. Some wineries are bigger than others. The bigger ones will offer tours more often than the smaller ones but they will probably not be as intimate.
