A few years ago, I was unhappily trapped in a boring administrative job that didn’t pay very well. I was well-qualified, but I had very little experience in any other area and it seemed that that was all employers were looking for. I became very sick of my situation and my lack of money especially, so I decided to do something about it. I decided to become an Avon representative.
It may not seem like a dramatic way to change your life at first, but believe me, it can be. I knew as soon as I began that I wanted this to be a serious business, not just a second income, and I treated it as such. I began marketing my business straight away, and seeking out a customer base. I took my brochure to work, I started a website, and I began joining groups and classes solely for the purpose of introducing the people there to my Avon group. It may seem ruthless, but I had fun at the same time, so it didn’t seem as though I was ‘aggressively marketing’ or anything.
Before long, I became a Trainee Sales Leader and began training up my own team of Avon representatives, all of whom were as ambitious and committed as I was. I was lucky to find such a committed bunch, because they really helped with my success as well as their own. I am now a Sales Leader and have finally been able to quit my old job. It feels great to know that you are working for yourself and are fully responsible for your own success. It just makes me realise that I was always cut out to run my own business. Without the finances to start up anything on my own, Avon gave me the resources and training I needed to break into business.
