A Little Sensor in the Furnace Was Causing All Our Heating Woes

I have heard others talk about checking their furnaces well before they need to be used for the season, but that is something that I just never seemed to remember. Even though I never checked mine until I actually needed it, it had never been a problem for me in the past. I would turn it on, and it would fire right up. I remembered then to change the filter, and I was always good to go. A few months ago when I turned it on, I knew that I was going to have to find Sacramento HVAC services to help me out because nothing happened.

I had no idea what to do, because the extent of my furnace knowledge was turning it on and changing the filter once a month. Anything beyond that would require a professional. I had a good run of about ten years of nothing going wrong, so I could not get too upset. I was just glad that it was not super cold out so I could go one night without it. I knew that I would need to get a repairman in though because we were due for a cold spell coming up. At least I checked to see if it was working before we really needed it bad.

The HVAC repairman came in and checked the thermostat first. Then he checked the breaker for the furnace in the basement, and the main switch that was next to it. He told me that he has come to more than one service call where someone accidentally shut off the switch that is usually next to a furnace in older houses. That was not the problem with ours. We had a sensor that was bad. It was reading that the furnace was running hot when it was not even on. The sensor cost about ten bucks and shut the whole furnace down. I had him clean and inspect the rest of the furnace while he was there too. To feel that heat come on was great.
